This weekend the NSW Swifts welcome the West Coast Fever to Sydney for their first home game of the year at Ken Rosewall Arena.
The Easter Sunday showdown (2pm) is also doubles as the Club’s Aware Super Super Helpful* game.
After going down by a single goal on the Sunshine Coast last Saturday, the Swifts have a 1-2 record for the season so far, but one win could potentially lift them into the competition’s top four.
Despite the loss in Queensland, head coach Briony Akle said she was satisfied with the team’s trajectory after three rounds.
“We’re building,” she said.
“Even though we didn’t get the win I certainly think we were 80 per cent better than we were last week (in the win against the Mavericks).
“There’s a lot of good in there.”
With the game on the line and just over a minute on the clock, Helen Housby made the brave call to go for a Super Shot to put the Swifts in the driver’s seat to see the game out.
Unfortunately, it didn’t stick and the Lightning played the clock smartly to edge a thriller.
Akle, however, didn’t have an issue the decision to take the game by the scruff of the neck.
“The last few minutes aren’t what let us down, I wish we had made more of our opportunities earlier in the game so it didn’t come down to that last minute.
“Looking ahead Fever are a quality team who’ve had some changes but still play the Fever way so we’ll do a lot of focus on ourselves to play the Swifts way.
“We’ve sat in the disappointment of losing against Lightning which is important because you don’t want to just wash your hands of losses like that.
"It’s important to sit on them for a while and recognise the hurt and use it to change the narrative the next week.
“Luckily we get the chance to get ourselves back up and running this weekend.”
