Last weekend the NSW Swifts were excited to head to Woolgoolga on the North Coast as part of a community and education initiative by Netball NSW.
Defensive midcourters Allie Smith and Sharni Lambden, who are both in the seven-time Premiers’ squad for their 2025 Suncorp Super Netball campaign, were part of the travelling entourage which “Painted Woopi Red” on Friday and Saturday, 15-16 November.
The players visited a number of schools in the Coffs Harbour and Woolgoolga area on the Friday morning and then took part in a Meet & Greet at the Woolgoolga Netball Association in the afternoon.
Smith and Lambden were also on hand to kick-start a day-long series of education sessions which were facilitated by Netball NSW for local volunteers in the area.
The sessions covered topics such as Coaching Connection, Conflict Management and NetSetGO - the national entry program for netball juniors.
Netball NSW General Manager, Communities, Trish Crews said:
“It was hugely exciting for us to bring both Allie and Sharni on this regional trip as it is not always possible for people in non-metro areas to make it to Swifts games,” she said.
“This area of the North Coast is a real stronghold for netball and it was amazing to see the excitement on the faces of the next generation of netballers coming through when they saw their heroes in person.
“Netball is not just the No.1 sport for women in girls in NSW, it is the most popular community sport and part of every town and hinterland across the state.
“Having the support of the Swifts in these initiatives is key and I would like to thank the fantastic volunteers at Woolgoolga Netball Association for working closely with us to make these visits and sessions happen.”
