After making a huge impact on the competition this year, the NSW Swifts are delighted to announce that star shooter Grace Nweke has recommitted to the Club for the 2026 Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) season.
The 23-year-old New Zealand attacker, who has just been named in Silver Ferns squad for the 2025/26 international window, debuted for the Swifts in Round 1 in Perth and scored a remarkable 718 goals in her first SSN season.
Despite her young age, Nweke has quickly become of the most respected players in the League. Having missed out on the playoffs in 2024, Nweke anchored a Swifts attacking unit which fired the Club back into the Finals Series in 2025.
On Friday night she was also voted the Swifts’ QBE Most Valued Player of the year.
Swifts head coach Briony Akle said Nweke would return an even better player in 2026.
“Grace has made a phenomenal impact on the Swifts and the whole SSN competition in a very short period of time and I know we’ve only just started to see what she can do,” Akle said.
“Despite only being 23 years of age, the standards she expects of herself and her teammates are of the highest level and that is why she’s become so respected and loved by fans very quickly.
“It takes a lot of bravery to leave everything you’ve ever known and back yourself to thrive in a new and challenging environment but Grace did that, and I know she will be even better in 2026.
“Grace never takes her talent for granted and is always committed to ensuring her game improves every day.
“I think it’s pretty obvious in the stands that Swifts fans have taken her to their hearts, and that speaks to the impact she’s had. We cannot wait to have her back.”
Nweke said her drive to help return the Swifts to top spot at season’s end was a key factor in her decision to re-sign with the seven-time Premiers.
“Firstly, I would like to thank the Swifts for making me feel so welcome this year,” she said.
“The history of success at the Swifts and desire to add to that legacy fosters a dynamic and enriching training environment. I’ve loved being a part of it and am eager for more.
“While we had some amazing highs and milestones in 2025, I feel that as a group we have unfinished business. With one season under my belt and lots of learning I am excited to see what we can achieve next year.
“Our fans have been incredible this season and their support has made my transition to Sydney life so much easier. I look forward to seeing some now familiar faces back at Ken Rosewall Arena next year and hopefully reward their love with a successful season”
The Swifts will make further roster announcements for 2026 in due course.
