Emerging defender Paige O’Neill will join the NSW Swifts as a Training Partner for the 2027 season, earning her first opportunity in the Club’s senior environment.
The Launceston native made the move to Sydney after representing Australia on the Tonga Tour in late 2025, relocating with the goal of taking her netball to the next level while completing her university degree.
O’Neill had a standout 2026 season, helping the NSW Under 19s claim Gold at the National Netball Championships and took home the Grand Final MVP for her efforts.
The 19-year-old defender also made the most of her opportunities with the QBE Swifts Academy, starting at goal defence in every game throughout the season and stepping up in the Grand Final to help the Swifts secure the Premiership.
For O’Neill, the opportunity is the culmination of years of hard work and a bold move from Tasmania to Sydney in pursuit of her netball ambitions.
“I’ve worked so hard to get to this point, so to be one of the few Tasmanians to ever become a Super Netball Training Partner is something I’m incredibly proud of,” she said.
“Moving to Sydney was a huge step for me, but I knew it was an opportunity to challenge myself and chase the goals I’ve had since I was little.
“To now have the chance to be part of the Swifts’ senior environment and be that little bit closer to playing at the highest level is pretty surreal.
“I’m so grateful for everyone who has supported me along the way, and I’m excited to keep working hard, learning and seeing where this opportunity can take me.”
Swifts Head Coach Dylan Nexhip said O’Neill had earned her opportunity after a strong season across multiple levels of the game.
“Paige has had a fantastic year, and what’s impressed us most is the way she has taken every opportunity that has come her way,” Nexhip said.
“She’s had success with NSW Under 19s, performed strongly with the Academy and shown she can have an impact in Premier League as well.
“Paige is still early in her development, but she has some really exciting attributes as a defender and a great appetite to learn.
“Bringing her into the senior environment gives her the chance to test herself, learn from our experienced players and continue building her game.”
