On the back of a massive 2025 in which she shone at national and international levels, NSW Swifts rookie Grace Whyte has been nominated for the NSW Young Athlete of the Year Award.
The 20-year-old, who has just earned her first fulltime Suncorp Super Netball contract, will be up for the honour at this year's NSW Sports Awards which take place on Monday 24 November.
Tumut’s finest netball export will be up against a host of world-class talent, most notably Anna Dubier (Cycling), Stefi Fejes (Volleyball), Chelsea Jones (Pool Lifesaving), Jack McShane (Bowls), Ruby Perkins (Basketball) and Sienna Toohey (Swimming).
Whyte made her debut for the Swifts in 2024 and was elevated to the team’s 11th Player roster spot this year after putting in a host of impressive performances.
On the back further elevation in her game, she earned selection for the Australian 21U Team which won the Youth World Cup in Gibraltar.
“The exceptional level of performances NSW sport has produced, both on and off the field of play, never ceases to amaze me. It is a true reflection of the dedication and hard work done by so many for so long as they aspire to achieve sporting excellence,” said Stuart Hodge, CEO of Sport NSW.
“The quality of Award category submissions this year is again outstanding, and we congratulate all finalists for their wonderful contribution to their sport, and to NSW sport more broadly.
“These performances and achievements continue to raise the bar and set new benchmarks for all sport to aspire to as we turbo-charge along the Green and Gold highway towards the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“These worthy finalists in each Award category have excelled at the highest levels and they join an illustrious alumnus of great NSW Sports Awards finalists who have served themselves, their sport and the state with distinction.”
The evening promises to be a big one for the Swifts with former Club Captain Liz Ellis set to be bestowed with Legend Status in the NSW Sport Hall of Fame, while former Swifts Premiership champion Mo’onia Gerrard will be inducted into the Hall of Fame for the first time.
