NSW Swifts captain Maddy Turner will depart the Club after an extraordinary 11-season career in the Red Dress, leaving a legacy as one of the most respected and decorated players in Swifts history.
A former Australian Diamond and double-Premiership champion with the Swifts, Turner made her debut in 2016 and has played 163 games for the Club.
Named captain of the Swifts in 2026, the South Australian native will go down as one of the greatest defenders in the Club’s 30-year history, as well as one of its finest champions.
In total, Turner played in four Grand Finals for the Swifts, winning titles in 2019 and 2021, and losing the 2016 and 2023 deciders in extra time. She was also named the Grand Final MVP in 2021.
Turner said she would forever treasure her time in a Swifts dress.
“When I made the move to Sydney over a decade ago, I never thought it would turn into the wonderful journey it has been,” she said.
“I have had so many great days with this Club and it has become a second home for me.
“Many people will talk about the Grand Final wins, but for me every moment was one that I cherished. We won as a team, and we lost as a team, and that sisterhood is something that I cherish most of all.
“As well as my teammates and coaches over the years, I also want to thank the many staff, Members and fans who played such a big role in my career and who I loved playing in front of every week.
“The Swifts have a rich heritage and legacy, and we saw how strong that is during our 30-year celebrations. I am proud to be a part of that, and I look forward to becoming more involved in it in the future.
“I will miss being part of the group on game day and running out in the Red Dress. I am not going to deny that will be hard when the time comes and I’m not there.
“But in time I won’t be sorry that it’s over, instead I’ll be glad that it happened. I will forever love the Swifts, and I will always be a Swift at heart.”
Swifts Executive General Manager Jeremy Butler paid tribute to Turner’s outstanding contribution to the Club.
“Maddy Turner’s name will always hold a special place in the history of the NSW Swifts,” Butler said.
“Across 11 seasons, four Grand Finals, two Premierships and a Club captaincy, Maddy has given everything to this Club. She has been a fierce competitor, a trusted teammate, a respected leader and one of the greatest players.
“Her career sits proudly alongside the great Swifts defenders who came before her, including Liz Ellis and Ali Broadbent, and she has built a legacy that younger players will continue to look up to for many years to come.
“What has made Maddy so special is not only the level of performance she has delivered on court, but the way she has carried herself off it. She commands enormous respect within our playing group, our staff, our Members and across the broader netball community because of her professionalism, humility and deep care for the Swifts.
“The Swifts are a collective built on history, connection and pride, and Maddy will always be part of that story.
“She leaves the playing roster as a true great, a Premiership Champion and someone who will forever be welcomed, celebrated and cherished by the NSW Swifts.”
