Netball Australia has today announced the 2027 Super Netball Grand Final will be played in Sydney, in partnership with the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW.
This is the first time Sydney will host the Grand Final since the Super Netball competition commenced.
The Super Netball Grand Final is estimated to attract more than 8,000 visitors to Sydney and inject over $4 million into the NSW visitor economy, delivering a significant boost to hotels, restaurants, pubs and retailers.
The match will also attract a significant broadcast audience and national media attention, showcasing Sydney as one of Australia’s premier cities for world-class sporting experiences, particularly in the lead up to the 2027 Netball World Cup from 25 August to 5 September, which will be played exclusively in the Harbour City.
Netball Australia CEO Mark Falvo said the Super Netball Grand Final is the crown jewel of Netball Australia’s portfolio and he was delighted to reach another agreement with the NSW Government in what will be a bumper year for netball fans.
“2027 is going to be huge for netball fans in Sydney. Super Netball remains the most attended women’s sports league in Australia and the Super Netball Grand Final has sold out for the past five years. We expect momentum to continue to build as we plan for Sydney in July next year.
“The Grand Final also arrives immediately before what will be the biggest Netball World Cup yet, generating $164 million in economic output and 176,000 bed nights. Hosting both the Super Netball Grand Final and Netball World Cup Sydney 2027 creates a compelling calendar of elite women’s sport.
“I thank the NSW Premier Chris Minns, Minister Steve Kamper and Destination NSW for their partnership with Netball Australia and their continued investment into netball, the leading sport for women and girls in Australia, and a sport on the rise for men and boys too,” Mr Falvo said.
Premier of NSW Chris Minns said: “Sydney has scored another goal as Australia’s home of netball, with the Super Netball Grand Final joining the Netball World Cup on the NSW major events calendar for 2027.
“The Super Netball Grand Final is the pinnacle of netball in Australia, and this is great news for the thousands of fans who will come together from around the country and across the Tasman to celebrate the game in Sydney,” Mr Minns said.
Minister for Jobs and Tourism and Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said: “Sydney is one of the world’s great sporting stages and is made for creating memorable sporting experiences that inspire visitors to stay longer, return again and explore more of our great state.
“As we work towards our goal of a $91 billion visitor economy, major events like the Super Netball Grand Final and the Netball World Cup are crucial. Not only do they fill stadiums, but they also fill hotels, restaurants, bars, theatres and shops, supporting thousands of businesses and jobs,” Mr Kamper said.
The 2027 Super Netball season will commence on Saturday 10 April next year with the beginning of a new broadcast agreement with Nine Entertainment, giving fans across Australia more ways to follow the action for free. A minimum of two matches per week will be broadcast on the 9Network linear channels, while every match will be available on Stan Sport and streamed free on 9Now.
In Round 1, the NSW Swifts will take on the Queensland Firebirds and the newly branded Sydney Sirens will face reigning Super Netball champions the Adelaide Thunderbirds. A Sydney derby is scheduled for Round 6, with the NSW Swifts hosting the Sydney Sirens at Ken Rosewall Arena.
