NSW Swifts fans will be treated to a bonanza of pre-season netball on their home turf this March when the Suncorp Team Girls Cup takes centre-stage at Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney Olympic Park.
The official Super Netball pre-season tournament will be played from Friday to Sunday, 22-24 March, in what will be the first and only opportunity to see all eight Clubs in one place in 2024.
The teams will be divided into two pools of four to play Round-Robin games across the Friday and Saturday before crossing over for a Finals Series on the Sunday.
The Swifts have been placed in Pool B alongside the West Coast Fever, the Queensland Firebirds and competition newcomers the Melbourne Mavericks. Pool A is made up of the Adelaide Thunderbirds, Melbourne Vixens, Sunshine Coast Lightning and the Giants.
Briony Akle’s team headlines both the Friday and Saturday nights, doing battle with the Fever (8pm Friday), the Firebirds (12.50pm Saturday) and the Mavericks (8pm Saturday). Who the teams play on the Sunday will depend on where they finish in their pool at the end of Round Robin play.
NSW Swifts Executive General Manager Kath said bringing the Team Girls Cup to Sydney was a wonderful opportunity for Swifts Members and Fans, and the wider netball community, to engage with Super Netball well ahead of the season start in April.
“After a massive 2023 we are really pumped that the 2024 season is fast approaching and having every team come to our home court to finalise their preparation is very exciting,” she said.
“Ken Rosewall Arena will be a fitting backdrop for a three-day festival of netball where the best players in the world will be plying their trade as they gear up for April.
“While this event is run by Netball Australia, the Swifts are delighted that NSW netball fans will have the opportunity to get a real taste of Super Netball action well before our first home game on April 21.
“As ever, it is our aim to return to the top of Australian netball in 2024 and the Team Girls Cup is a vital part of our planning. I know that our Swifts Members and fans will be out in big numbers to get around us this season – we can’t wait to see them."
The 2024 Team Girls Cup is supported proudly by the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency Destination NSW. Discover everything Sydney has to offer at sydney.com.
