The Derby has only been around for a decade but it's fast become one of the most hotly anticipated rivalries on the Sydney sports scene. Here are five reasons why it's must-see sports entertainment.
Australia’s No.1 Female Sports League
In 2025, almost 400,000 fans attended Suncorp Super Netball making it head and shoulders the No.1 female sports league in the country.
Not only that, the National League is built on 30 years of excellence and tradition which forms the backbone of this nation’s most successful national team, the Australian Diamonds.
The Best In The World Are Here
Netball is the only major sport in the world that has been built by women and today an amazing 20 million play the game across Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the Pacific, Asia, Africa and the Caribbean.
And out of that 20 million, the best 80 ply their trade here in Australia. This is means when you go to Swifts v Giants Derby you are seeing some very special athletes in action.
A Rivalry That Delivers
Since their formation in 1997, the Swifts – through the likes of Liz Ellis, Cath Cox and Paige Hadley – have become NSW’s most celebrated professional female sports team with an unrivalled seven Premierships and 13 Grand Finals to their name.
However, since the Giants came on the scene in 2017 the rivalry between the two Sydney-based sides has grown a life of its own.
The Derby regularly pulls in crowds north of 10,000 fans, and Ken Rosewall is always packed to the rafters. It gets loud, damn loud, and we love it!
A Special ANZAC Day Round
The NSW Swifts and the Giants go head-to-head on ANZAC Day and it will carry significance beyond the scoreboard, as the match shines a spotlight on Women Veterans Australia and the ongoing push for gender equality.
In a powerful show of support, the Swifts, Giants and Women Veterans Australia will recognise and celebrate the contributions of female service personnel, a group that has been historically underrepresented in national conversations surrounding military service.
Something for Everyone
Going to the netball is not just a live sport experience, it’s world-class entertainment. Not only do the Swifts have the best fan activation zone in Aussie sport for the kids, they also have some of the best food and beverage options available in the precinct with premium beer and wine from across the nation.
