Helen Housby and new Swifts signing Grace Nweke took the headlines when the England Roses defeated New Zealand 59-58 in Game One of the Taini Jamison series.
Shooting powerhouse Helen Housby finished on 86% shooting accuracy, with 18 goals, which was supported by 23 goal assists as well as 14 centre pass receives.
Nweke scored an impressive 49 goals with a shooting accuracy of 89%, as well as taking 5 offensive rebounds, as she stood out on her return to her hometown.
England Roses Head Coach, Jess Thirlby said: “What I’m really impressed with is the will to win and the fact that we’re able to keep finding ways to get over the line.
Even though it wasn’t the debut of her dreams, Swifts Alumni #84 Claire O’Brien made her Silver Ferns debut in the second half of the match racking up 13 goal assists, 19 feeds and one pickup.
Swifts Head Coach Briony Akle is also playing a key part in the series as a specialist coach for New Zealand.
Game Two takes place on Wednesday at Te Rauparaha Arena in Porirua, New Zealand with centre pass at 7:30 NZDT (5:30 AEST).
