The Swifts have been named the NSW Team of the Year for the second time in three seasons after taking out the state's highest team honour at the NSW Sports Awards at Commonwealth Bank Stadium in Parramatta last night.
The Suncorp Super Netball Premiers, who also took home the award on the back of their 2019 Premiership, beat a strong field including the NSW Blues Origin side and the Sydney Sixers to claim the honours on NSW sport's night of nights.
Head Coach Briony Akle was nominated for Coach of the Year but missed out to Olympic Swimming Coach Simon Cusack.
There was further success for Netball NSW, however, with the organisation winning Event of the Year for its celebration of Reconciliation Week which also included a Super Netball Indigenous Round Derby between the Swifts and Giants.
Akle said the the seven-time Premiers should be exceptionally proud of the achievement.
"It is really pleasing to see the efforts of our team recognised with the top honour the State has to offer and beat such fine opposition to the Award," she said.
"It takes a special group to relocate five times, without the luxury of being able to bring families and partners, and still have the reslove to put in a Premiership-winning effort.
"I would also like to acknowlege the other Super Netball teams we faced in 2021 who made similar sacrifices to keep the competition alive and keep netball as the foremost leader for women in Australian team sport.
"For our players, coaching staff, club staff, members and fans 2021 was a collective effort and I'm honoured we can add this acknowledgement to our trophy cabinet."
