The NSW Swifts can now confirm that Sam Wallace suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in the Club's Round 1 Suncorp Super Netball loss to the Giants last night.
Wallace went down in the final 10 minutes of the game with what appeared to be a knee injury. She was taken to hospital immediately after the game where scans were conducted and confirmed the injury.
"This is obviously a devastating blow for Sam and the team and we are all absolutely shattered," said Head Coach Briony Akle.
"Sam's worked so hard throughout pre-season to overcome an injury to her other knee. To have her season over is simply heartbreaking.
"If there's one positive thing Sam has on her side though, it's that this team is her family. There is no closer group in the competition, and we will help get her through this.
"She is extremely tough too. It won't be easy, but we're sure Sammy will be back and continue to be one of the best shooters in the world."
The Club will assess its options regarding a replacement player and will make further comment on this in due course.
Finally, the Club would like to thank our members, fans and everyone in the netball community who has sent their well wishes to Sam.
