The NSW Swifts are delighted to announce the club as hit a record milestone of 5,000 members for the 2021 Suncorp Super Netball season.
In the club's 25th Anniversary, the new milestone means the Swifts have achieved record membership numbers for three successive seasons.
Having been formed in 1997 as the Sydney Swifts before growing to encompass of all NSW in 2008, the Swifts have become one of the country's most iconic sporting teams with a record six Premierships.
One of the keys to the growth has been the club's new initiatives to connect with netball's grassroots community.
In 2021 the Swifts launched a new Club Membership which was created with the goal of providing netball clubs an easy, cost-effective way to reward their teams by taking them to see Australia’s most successful elite club in action, with almost 60 teams joining up in the first year.
The milestone is also a record for any Australian netball club since the National League was founded in 1997.
Nikki Horton, Executive General Manager of the Swifts, said the players and support staff were proud and honoured to have so many supporters backing one of the country's finest female sports teams.
"This is a huge achievement and a real glass ceiling moment for not just the Swifts, but our game too," Horton said.
"Now at Ken Rosewall Arena we have the capacity to thrive and our teams, on and off the court, have worked diligently to promote Super Netball and the world-class athletes it attracts.
"That we've already reached 5,000 means we are proving netball, and female sport, has a keen audience which is ready to invest in the game."
"Our goal now is to make this 5k number our baseline and continue the strong growth year on year."
