The future of netball is on full display this week as the 2025 National Netball Championships take centre stage at Netball Central at Sydney Olympic Park — returning to the iconic venue for the first time in a decade.
Among the country’s rising stars, several familiar faces from the NSW Swifts family are donning the light blue dress embossed with the Waratah and representing NSW across the 17U and 19U divisions, proudly showcasing the depth of talent being developed within the QBE Swifts Academy and the elite Swifts pathways.
Headlining the NSW 19U side is Nicola Barge, a Swifts Training Partner and the newly appointed Captain of the 19U team. Hailing from the Sutherland Shire, Barge is stepping into a leadership role with poise and purpose.
This marks her fourth consecutive appearance at the Championships, and her calm composure, smart decision-making, and shooting accuracy have already made her one of the most reliable performers on court.
Joining her are three standout athletes from the QBE Swifts Academy:
- Nevaeh Matenga (Liverpool City)
- Skye Thompson (Sutherland Shire)
- Sophia Martinussen (Randwick)
This trio brings a mix of flair, athleticism and grit, and will no doubt be key contributors in NSW’s push for a podium finish.
Guiding the 19U squad from the sidelines is Jen Wright, the NSW Swifts Specialist Coach, who brings a wealth of experience and tactical insight to the team as Head Coach.
The 17U side also boasts strong Swifts links with Nardia Trevor, former Swift #28 and proud Swifts Alumni, stepping into the Head Coach role. Her leadership and on-court knowledge bring invaluable experience to the next generation of talent.
With a strong representation of Swifts-affiliated players and coaches, these Championships are not only a celebration of talent but a showcase of the pathways shaping the next generation of elite athletes.
As the action unfolds from Thursday 10 April to Wednesday 16 April, all eyes will be on the NSW sides as they take on the best in the country — and with the Swifts family behind them, they’re ready to soar.
