The NSW Swifts have tough clashes with the Queensland Firebirds (tonight) and the Collingwood Magpies (Saturday) to deal with first, but another Suncorp Super Netball Grand Final rematch is on the cards for next week.
Super Netball today released the fixtures for Rounds 7-9 of the condensed 2020 competition in Queensland with the Premiers set to host the Sunshine Coast Lightning next Wednesday night (26 August) in Brisbane. The Lightning ended the Swifts’ unbeaten start to the season on Sunday, gaining revenge for last year’s Grand Final defeat.
The Round 7 game is classified as a home tie for the NSW Swifts and will be the first of another three games the team will play in a week.
In Round 8 the Swifts will be hosted by the ladder-leading Melbourne Vixens (Saturday 29 August) before playing the Magpies again in Round 9 (Tuesday 1 September) in what will be a home game for Collingwood.
All of the above matches will be played at Brisbane’s Nissan Arena.
Super Netball is yet to announce the fixtures for the final rounds (10-14) of the regular season.
League operations manager Bill Allen said he was pleased to have confirmed all but the final five rounds of the season.
“With an increased seating capacity and multiple warm-up courts available, Nissan Arena provided the ideal and most financially viable location for the league to hold the middle three rounds of the season,” he said.
“Clubs are asking for greater certainty around scheduling for the remainder of the season and this fixture now takes us through to the first week of September.
“We are incredibly grateful to the management teams of USC Stadium and Nissan Arena, and to the Sunshine Coast Lightning and Queensland Firebirds who are acting as host clubs to the league and teams who have relocated into the hub in south-east Queensland.”
To assist with managing the overall cost of delivering the season, all Round 7 matches and the first two matches of Round 9, including the Swifts’ clash with Collingwood, will be played behind closed doors.
The Swifts play the Firebirds at Nissan Arena in Round 5 tonight. The game will be broadcast live on Telstra TV and the Telstra Netball Live App.
