The NSW Swifts’ Round 4 Suncorp Super Netball clash will be much more than a sporting contest with the Club set to host its annual Pride Round on Sunday.
For the third year in a row with the support of Principal Partner QBE Insurance, Ken Rosewall Arena will be transformed into a Rainbow Bowl, an initiative which started in 2023.
This will see the entire arena decked out in the colours of the Progressive Flag with attendees encouraged to use their allocated seat cover to participate in a Rainbow Wave during the game.
As well as this the Club will be providing free Pride Ribbons and Rainbow Face-Painting at the Red Energy styling station, with a host of Pride merch packs to be given away over the course of the day.
NSW Swifts Executive General Manager Jeremy Butler spoke of the importance the celebration has on the Club calendar.
"This weekend everyone at the NSW Swifts is excited to host our third Pride Round,” he said.
“Since starting in 2023, the Round has become a way of showing our support for the LGBTIQA+ Community, particularly those in our Swifts Family who identify as part of that Community.
“Earlier this week our team had the pleasure of meeting and hearing from former Australian Olympic gymnast Dominic Clarke who spoke about the challenges he faced as an openly gay athlete, and the importance of visibility to ensure sport can be a safe space for everyone.
“We are committed to continuing that visibility. This is an initiative that means a huge amount to us as a Club and we are delighted that is it has been embraced so wonderfully by our wider Swifts family.
“Our Club and game will always be a safe space for everyone, and this weekend is a continued demonstration of that.
“I would like to thank QBE Insurance for their fantastic support of this shared initiative once again. We cannot wait to see you everyone on Sunday.”
