To mark International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025 the NSW Swifts are proud to once again support Share The Dignity’s campaign to end period poverty in Australia.
Share the Dignity is a women's charity that works to make a real difference in the lives of those experiencing homelessness, fleeing domestic violence, or doing it tough.
They distribute period products to women, girls, and anyone who menstruates and needs support.
As they say: when someone has fallen on hard times, the last thing on a woman’s mind should be dealing with her period.
Share The Dignity also aims to “Smash the Stigma” when it comes to talking about periods.
This is the second IWD campaign the Swifts have supported in aid of the charity. In 2023 the Club released a video to normalise the subject of periods and enhance awareness of an issue that affects women and young girls across the nation.
This year, the Swifts welcomed Share the Dignity’s Founder & Managing Director Rochelle Courtenay to their Netball Central training base where she helped pack bags filled with essential items in support of the Sponsor a Bag campaign.
“It is hard to believe that in 2025 we live in a country that still has so many women facing period poverty,” Swifts head coach Briony Akle said.
“In netball we are supporting women and young girls all year round - not just on International Women’s Day - but today provides us with a platform to highlight this huge issue in our society.
“I am really proud that our playing group feel passionate about this because looking out for future generations and inspiring young women to dream of a better, more equal society is at the heartbeat of what we do.
“It was an honour to have Rochelle join us recently and on International Women’s Day it would be wonderful for our Swifts and netball family to see this and donate some sanitary items if they are in a position to do so.”
Courtenay said Share The Dignity deeply treasured their support from the Swifts.
“This is a relationship that has blossomed over the past number of years and I cannot tell you what it means to have some of the best female athletes in Australia getting behind our cause.
“Period poverty is still very real in Australia and no woman, regardless of their financial circumstances, should have to go without basic sanitary items. Dignity should not be something that’s reserved for those with more money, it should be a human right.”
