The NSW Swifts are in the running for two of the top honours at the 2021 NSW Sports Awards.
The Awards have been running since 1994, and serve to celebrate the achievements of athletes, coaches, officials, administrators and sports organisations on an annual basis.
The seven-time Premiers have been nominated for the NSW Team of the Year Award on the back of their 2021 Suncorp Super Netball title success, while head coach Briony Akle has been nominated for the Coach of the Year honour.
The Swifts took out the Team of the Year Award in 2019 after they ended an 11-year title drought and will face tough opposition from the likes of the NSW Blues (rugby league), GWS Giants (AFL), Sydney Sixers (Cricket) and Sydney FC Women (soccer) if they are to win for the second time in three years.
Akle, who was also nominated for the Coach of the Year Award in 2019, is up against Brad Fittler (rugby league), Simon Cusack (swimming), Tom Dawson (cycling), Matt Horsnell (athletics) and Ante Juric (soccer) for the 2021 honour.
Meanwhile Netball NSW, which owns and operates the Swifts, has been nominated for the Organisation of the Year Award and the organisaton's National Reconciliation Week Celebration, which incorporated the Swifts and Giants-hosted Super Nebtall Indigenous Rounds, has been nominated for Event of the Year. The winners of the NSW Sports Awards will be announced at the NSW Champions of Sport Ceremony - to be held at CommBank Stadium (formerly Bankwest Stadium) in Parramatta on Monday 24 January 2022.
