Our fixtures are locked in for Season 2025 and the NSW Swifts are gearing up for our biggest season yet.
The addition of rising Silver Ferns star shooter Grace Nweke to the ranks – alongside fellow international standouts Paige Hadley, Sarah Klau and Helen Housby - means the Swifts are guaranteed to be the big entertainers when the action starts next April.
And sports fans are about to see another leap in support for Australia’s most attended women’s code in 2024.
With an average attendance topping more than 6,000 per game, Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) already outstrips all rival leagues when it comes to drawing in the crowds.
Compared to published 2023/24 YouGov* figures, SSN average attendances were 6,104 and are almost 50% higher than the second highest ranked code – that was AFLW with 3,155.
Women’s Big Bash League averaged 3,155, with the Women’s A-League football at 2,156 despite the sport enjoying a lift in attention post the Women’s World Cup.
The Swifts enjoyed a number of sold-out games at the 10,000 capacity Ken Rosewall Arena, including a huge Derby against local rivals the Giants.
The seven-time Premiers were not alone in reporting full houses with the West Coast Fever, Melbourne Vixens and Adelaide Thunderbirds all selling out major venues in their respective cities.
The second NSW Derby – hosted by the Giants – was also a sellout, despite both teams being out of the running for Finals.
Swifts Executive General Manager Jeremy Butler believes netball’s strong core audience is behind the sport’s success and with a World Cup on the horizon in 2027 expects more fans to flock to the games next season.
“The numbers don’t lie and they clearly demonstrate the respect netball and clubs like the Swifts have in the Australian sporting conscience,” he said.
“When you look at other female sports competitions, netball is the clear leader and it has achieved this on a shoestring budget compared with rival codes who are propped up by their male equivalents.
“It’s not just our club games where we are seeing a big interest in netball. We recently had two sell-out Diamonds games during the Constellation Cup Series.
“The wider public may be unaware that Suncorp Super Netball is the world’s premier league for our sport.
“And with international stars like Helen Housby and Grace in our team, alongside our Diamonds stars Paige Hadley and Sarah Klau, the Swifts lead the way in star quality.
“Our games provide a brilliant entertainment experience that excites sports fanatics and will be a treat for those looking to try something new.
