Decorated pathways mentor Jen Wright will join the NSW Swifts as a Specialist Coach for the 2025 Suncorp Super Netball season.
Wright, who has achieved coaching success at the National Underage Championships and in the Netball NSW Premier League, is one of the most highly-regarded minds in the game.
A recent graduate of the AIS Elevate coaching program and a product of the Eastwood Ryde Netball Association, Wright started her NSW coaching journey with the Sydney Netball Academy before leading both the Manly-Warringah Sapphires and ERNA Hawks to titles in the Opens Division of the Netball NSW Premier League.
In 2021 she was appointed Assistant Coach of the QBE Swifts Academy and in 2022 she led the NSW 19U side to success at the National Netball Championships, a campaign in which the team went undefeated.
Wright has coached a plethora of current and former Swifts including - but not limited to - Teigan O’Shannassy, Sophie Fawns, Claire O’Brien and Sophie Craig (nee Halpin).
Most recently Wright has led the Netball NSW Waratah Academy where she’s managed the individual programming of Nationally-Identified athletes in the Netball Australia pathway.
Wright joins a coaching ticket headed once again by double Premiership-winning mentor Briony Akle and recently appointed Assistant Coach Dylan Nexhip.
Akle is excited to welcome Wright to the senior Swifts setup:
“Through my own coaching path, I have gotten to know Jen really well and her track record speaks for itself.
“While this may be Jen’s first SSN coaching role, she’s already well embedded in our Swifts environment via the QBE Swifts Academy and our athletes have a huge respect for her and what she brings to the table.
“Like with Dylan’s appointment earlier this year, Jen’s skillset will be key to helping us improve areas we identified for focus after last season and I am very excited to start working with her.
“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Jen ahead of what’s a massive year coming up.”
Wright added:
“I am immensely proud to be joining the Swifts’ SSN setup and it is an honour to have this role at such a prestigious and successful Club.
“I have had the pleasure of working with amazing athletes, fellow coaches and administrators in the Netball NSW pathway and I would like to thank each of them for the role they’ve played in helping me get to this point.
“My commitment to the Swifts is aligned with the desire to aim for ‘world's best’ which is something Briony is very passionate about, and this is the standard we should always set for ourselves.
“My driving force is the motivation to inspire and empower athletes to be the best that they can be, and I’m ready for this next step.”
