The NSW Swifts signed off their pre-season campaign with a strong 63-54 win over the Giants at Netball Central.
Leading at each break the Swifts pulled away in the final quarter after the Giants had managed to reduce their lead in the second and third periods.
Grace Nweke was a tower of strength in the goal circle for the Swifts all evening as she connected well with Tayla Fraser, Gina Crampton and Maddy who supplied excellent ball for the duration of the game.
The Swifts led by double digits in the first quarter but the Giants rallied twice to reduce the margin to as little as two goals. Despite this, they could never quite rein in their opponents.
Having lost pre-season tests against the West Coast Fever and Adelaide Thunderbirds by narrow margins, Swifts head coach Briony Akle said getting a win on the board was a nice bonus ahead of Round 1.
"In pre-season the result doesn't really matter but it's always nice to win knowing you've tested different plays and strategies throughout a contest.
"What makes me very proud is that we started really well but then managed to stay strong when the Giants came back at us. It was a proper game for both clubs.
"Netball Central was buzzing last night and I'm really glad we were able to put on an entertaining spectacle for everyone who came along.
"All eyes are on Adelaide now. It's going to be a huge game against one of our biggest rivals in the Thunderbirds. They are also celebrating 30 years so we'll both have huge motivation to register a win first up."
