The NSW Swifts are delighted to announce that New Zealand international shooter Grace Nweke has signed with the Club for the 2025 Suncorp Super Netball season.
Despite being just 22 years of age, Nweke has amassed an impressive resume with over 30 Silver Ferns caps to her name so far.
A specialist goal shooter, the Auckland native has plied her trade with the Northern Mystics in ANZ Premiership since 2019 and was named the NZ Player of the Year in 2022.
She recently won an ANZ Premiership with the Mystics, scoring the winning goal in the 2024 Grand Final against the Central Pulse.
Nweke joins a distinguished list of Silver Ferns who have been part of the Swifts with Laura Langman, Katrina Rore (nee Grant), Courtney Tairi and Kayla Johnson (nee Cullen) all having played for the Club down the years.
She is set to make the move to Sydney for pre-season training after her current international commitments with New Zealand have been completed.
Swifts head coach Briony Akle welcomed Nweke to the seven-time Premiers:
“Grace is one of the best shooters in the world and we are very excited to welcome her to the Swifts,” she said.
“While she has established herself at international level, I feel she has only scratched the surface of her potential and we cannot wait to share this next chapter with her.
“When we chatted with Grace it was clear that she wanted to test herself in our competition and continue her growth as a player and person and that resonates with us.
“As a Club we are also deeply committed to supporting the aspirations of all our athletes when it comes to playing international netball.
“We work closely with the likes of the Australian Diamonds and England Roses to ensure availability of our athletes for international competition, and would of course do likewise for the Silver Ferns.
“We are looking forward to welcoming Grace to Sydney and supporting her in every way we can. It is not just about assisting her on court, but ensuring she feels at home in a new city with a brand-new Club.”
Nweke said she was excited to make the move to the Swifts:
“Playing with the Swifts in Australia will provide me with new challenges and experiences that will further hone my skills and, ultimately, benefit my game at all levels,” she said.
“Getting the opportunity to be exposed to different playing styles and strategies, week in and week out, is really important for my development and I am honoured to have the chance to do this at a club as successful and storied as the Swifts.
“I am ready for a shake-up and a new journey and cannot wait to get started with the Swifts.
“I also would like to express my sincere thanks to everyone at the Northern Mystics for making me the player I am today. As a proud Aucklander it fills me with great pride to reflect on my individual and collective achievements at the Mystics and my growth over those six years, and I will be eternally grateful to everyone at the Club.”
The Swifts will announce further roster updates in due course.
