Sharpshooter Sophia Martinussen will continue her journey with the NSW Swifts after re-signing as a Training Partner for the 2027 Super Netball season.
The 19-year-old played her junior netball in Canberra before moving to Sydney in 2025 to join the QBE Swifts Academy and continue her development within the NSW pathway.
The towering shooter helped NSW U19s claim Gold at the National Netball Championships before playing a key role in the championship-winning QBE Swifts Academy’s Super Netball Reserves campaign.
Martinussen also represented Australia’s U23 Pathway team on the Ocean of Power Tour in Samoa, adding international experience to an already busy year.
One of the leading shooters in the Australian netball pathway, Martinussen said she is excited to continue her development in the Swifts environment.
“I’ve really enjoyed my first year as a Training Partner and soaking in everything I’ve learned from being around the senior group,” Martinussen said.
“Having another year in this environment is something I’m really excited about because I know there’s still so much I can learn and improve on.
“I’ve had some great experiences this year and I want to keep building on those opportunities.
“I’m really grateful to the Swifts for backing me and giving me another chance to work towards my goal of playing Super Netball.”
Swifts Head Coach Dylan Nexhip said Martinussen’s development throughout 2026 had earned her another opportunity in the senior environment.
“Sophia has continued to grow throughout the year and has shown that she can perform across different levels of the pathway,” Nexhip said.
“She’s a natural shooter with a strong understanding of the game and we’ve seen her become more confident in her ability to compete against quality opposition.
“Her international experience in Samoa was another valuable opportunity and she’ll take plenty from that into next season.”
