Product of Liverpool City Netball Association, midcourter Courtney Castle has secured her first Training Partner contract with the NSW Swifts for the 2026 Suncorp Super Netball season.
The 23-year-old has played a key role in the QBE Swifts Academy since being first inducted back in 2019 which saw her included in both Australian National League & National Netball Championship campaigns for the Swifts pathway team and a standout for the Academy in the new Super Netball Reserves format.
“I am so honoured and grateful to have been given this opportunity” says the QBE Swifts Academy veteran, “my resilience is my strength and I’m so proud of myself that I haven’t given up on my ultimate goal.”
“To be alongside some of the world’s best players and be part of a club with such a proud history is nothing short of a dream come true. It’s a chance to challenge myself, grow as an athlete, and contribute to a legacy that has inspired generations – myself included.”
The South-West Mounties Magic 2025 Opens Player of the Year, Castle, has faced a challenging journey on her pathway to success, marked by perseverance and resilience. Her career has seen its fair share of setbacks. From being selected for the 2020 19U NSW State Team but unable to take the court due to COVID-19 lockdowns, to battling back from a career-threatening knee injury in 2022 while representing ERNA Hawks. Despite these hurdles, Castle’s determination, grit, and unwavering attitude have propelled her forward, culminating in the well-deserved achievement of her first Training Partner contract.
Head Coach Briony Akle has commended Castle’s determination and her constant focus on the court.
“Courtney embodies leadership and determination beyond her years. Her dedication, confidence, and ability to uplift others set her apart, as she continues to prove her skill and integrity both on and off the court.
“She brings a rare combination of knowledge, vision, and presence to the game. On the court, she not only executes with precision but also inspires, motivates, and profoundly influences everyone around her to be their best.
“Our QBE Swifts Academy is a force to be reckoned with – we’re preparing the next generation of athletes to make their mark on the international stage.” Says Akle.
