NSW Swifts co-captain Maddy Proud has been ruled out of today’s Suncorp Super Netball Round 5 clash with the Melbourne Vixens at Ken Rosewall Arena due to a knee complaint.
The extent of the complaint is yet to be determined. As a result, Proud will be replaced in the Game Day squad by rookie attacker Grace Whyte.
“At this stage we are playing it safe with Maddy as it’s still quite early in the season and we don’t want to aggravate this issue into something greater,” Swifts head coach Briony Akle said.
“The most important thing now is that she gets right as soon as possible.
“While we’ll miss her today, I have huge faith in the depth of our wider squad and I know that players will step up when they need to.”
Meanwhile defender Teigan O’Shannassy continues to make good progress as she rehabs a hip injury and is now returning to fulltime training, however she will be replaced again this week by Elle Temu.
