NSW junior Teigan O’Shannassy has re-signed with the Swifts and will don the red dress for a further two Suncorp Super Netball seasons.
A rising star of the Australian game, the goalkeeper has become a force to be reckoned with following an impressive 2023 season.
Appearing in three Grand Finals across Suncorp Super Netball, the Australian Netball Championships and winning gold for Australia in the Fast5 World Series in November, O’Shannassy also saw her Manly-Warringah Sapphires team take out the 2023 Netball NSW Premier League Grand Final.
Guided by one of the world netball’s best defensive duos in Maddy Turner and Sarah Klau, it’s no surprise that Head Coach Briony Akle is excited for what O’Shannassy can produce in the seasons ahead.
“I’ve watched Teigan come up through the NSW Pathways and to see her really bloom and grow into the player she is today is something truly special,” Akle said.
“She really stamped her name in the league following a standout performance in Perth against arguably one of the world’s best in Janielle Fowler. She certainly announced her arrival in this competition.”
O’Shannassy sustained a calf injury in the early rounds of the 2023 Suncorp Super Netball season but it didn’t hold the young defender back from continuous stellar performances later in the year.
“I feel that Tossy has a lot more to give this coming season and we’re ready to see even more of what she can do.”
O’Shannassy is excited for what lies ahead in the coming seasons.
“I’m so stoked to be back on board for another two seasons with the Club.” she said.
“As a young kid playing netball, you always dream of becoming a Swift one day. So being able to continue to live out that childhood dream is unbelievable in itself.
“The Club has such an amazing and wholesome culture to it. The support from on and off the court is a key as to what really bonds this Club and there’s never a dull day!
“I want to go to the next level and I know that Bri, as well as working together with Turner and Sarah, can take me there.”
The NSW Swifts will announce further player signings in due course.
