The NSW Swifts are delighted to announce that Dylan Nexhip has recommitted to the Club as Assistant Coach.
The defensive specialist, who is also captain of the Australian Kelpies, joined Briony Akle’s coaching team at the start of 2025 and played a huge role in the Swifts’ return to Suncorp Super Netball Finals action.
An experienced pathway mentor, who was head coach of North Shore United in the Netball NSW Premier League before taking on his Swifts role, Nexhip said he was excited to return.
“This year has been a huge learning experience for me, but also a very satisfying one,” he said.
“We had some huge successes and some disappointments such as missing out on the Grand Final by one goal, but we demonstrated that we are good enough to get back to the top again and with the core of our group returning, I cannot wait to see where we go.
“I have loved getting to coach incredibly talented players daily, and be part of a coaching setup that is open to all views and constantly looking to evolve.
“I would like to thank Briony and the Swifts for showing trust in me this year and I am really excited to have the chance to build on what we started in 2025.
“From a defensive point of view, we built formidable combinations throughout the season and showed we have the personnel to take on any attack line in the competition. We still have many areas to grow in and that is what I am most excited about, knowing that there is no easy game in Suncorp Super Netball.”
Akle congratulated Nexhip on his new contract extension.
“Dylan is a very popular member of our high-performance team and his expertise helped our defenders provide lots of bonus possession to keep us among the front-runners all year long.
“He is very innovative in how he approaches the game, but also has a big respect for traditional methods too, and that is a great balance to have in a coach.
“Since we brought a defensive specialist on board, we’ve seen the development of players like Teigan O’Shannassy go to a new level, while the likes of Sarah Klau and Maddy Turner really benefit from new ideas because athletes never stop learning.
“I am delighted to have Dylan back on deck and look forward to working alongside him again in 2026.”
