The NSW Swifts can confirm that Swift #108 & QBE Swifts Academy athlete, Jemma Donoghue will be departing the club as the defender has accepted an exciting overseas opportunity, marking the next step in her professional netball career.
The 23-year-old, who joined the Swifts as a Training Partner (TP) for the 2024 season, has been offered a contract with an overseas club. After spending the last year with the Swifts and previously playing in the UK’s English Super League with the Leeds Rhinos, Donoghue is eager to test herself in a new environment and continue her development as one of the country’s most promising defensive talents.
The 2023 NSW Premier League Grand Final MVP has already made her mark in the Suncorp Super Netball, having played for the Giants in 2022 & debuting for the NSW Swifts against the Melbourne Mavericks in the 2024 season. While it was a difficult decision to leave the Swifts, Donoghue shared that the opportunity to play at this level, combined with the timing of her university graduation, made it an offer she could not pass up.
The NSW Swifts wish Jemma every success in her new chapter and look forward to watching her progress on the global stage.
