The NSW Swifts would like to wish Verity Simmons the very best for the future as she departs the Club.
The former Australian Diamond was called in late last year as a replacement for co-captain Maddy Proud who missed the 2025 Suncorp Super Netball season to welcome her first child.
The 34-year-old made her NSW debut against her old side West Coast Fever in Round 1 this year and went on to play a big role in the Club’s return to Finals Series action.
A product of the Netball NSW pathway, Simmons had previously won Premierships with both the Fever and Queensland Firebirds, however, 2025 was the first time she got to represent her home state at National League level.
The midcourter said she had really enjoyed her time at the Club and would forever cherish being Swift No.112.
“As I said when I signed, this was a full circle moment for me and to get the opportunity to be part of the Swifts is something I will always hold dear.
“My teammates, coaches and the whole Club made me feel so welcome and it was an honour to wear the dress.
“Growing up in NSW and seeing how many past and present greats have worn a Swifts dress makes it a very special Club to be a part of and I’m really glad it’s now part of my journey too.
“Thank you so much to everyone for making my time here so enjoyable. I’ve made some friends for life and will always feel welcome here.
“Now I am looking forward to taking some down time before I decide what’s next for me.”
Head Coach Briony Akle paid tribute to Simmons, who she said was a great influence on younger members of the squad.
“As one of the best players to have come through the Netball NSW pathway I am delighted that Vezzy is now finally part of our Swifts Alumni.
“In her time here, she was the ultimate team person and her athleticism and attitude have been world class.
“Vezzy had nothing to prove coming here. She was already a multiple Premiership winner and an Australian Diamond, but she was happy to play whatever role we needed from game to game, and that was vital for us.
“On behalf of the Swifts I want to wish Vezzy all the best for what comes next.”
