Swifts defender Teigan O’Shannassy has been ruled out of the 2025 Suncorp Super Netball Finals Series due to a back injury.
It was hoped the 25-year-old – who last played in Round 12 – would recover in time to play a role in the Swifts’ bid to reach a fourth Grand Final in seven years, but the extent of her injury has ruled that possibility out.
Swifts head coach Briony Akle said she was very disappointed by the news, but backed O’Shannassy to return even stronger.
“Teigan has been one of the form defenders across the entire competition this year and her numerous game MVP awards have demonstrated this.
“Firstly, we are hugely disappointed for Teigan herself as she has proven herself to be one of the best and the Finals Series was another opportunity for her to showcase that.
“She is very loved in our group and you never want to see any athlete miss out on the big stage due to injury but that is professional sport, unfortunately.
“There’s no question, this is a blow for everyone. To say it’s not would mean we’re not giving due respect to how good Teigan has been this year. However, we know from experience that the path to winning titles is never straightforward.
“She will still be a key part of our group going forward in the Finals Series and our medical team will work closely to get her back on track as quickly as possible.”
ROUND 14 UPDATE
Due to a lower-leg injury Paige Hadley has been ruled out of this weekend’s Round 14 clash against the Queensland Firebirds in Brisbane with Allie Smith slotting into the Game Day Squad. Freddie Schneideman will once again provide defensive cover in place of O’Shannassy.
