Suncorp is bringing together some of netball’s most unlikely stars for a one-off match to be played as a curtain-raiser to the NSW Swifts' Heritage Round clash with the Queensland Firebirds at Ken Rosewall Arena this Sunday.
Coached by Suncorp’s long-standing Team Girls ambassadors, Laura Geitz and Gretel Bueta, the Off-Court All Stars will feature women from all walks of life who have all played netball at some time in their lives.
The Off-Court All Stars can attribute the skills they learnt on the court to shaping their own endgame and successful careers, whether that be in Law, Finance, Design, Medicine, Sports, Marketing, Entertainment or Education.
As part of Suncorp’s ongoing commitment to women’s sports, Suncorp established Suncorp Team Girls in 2017 to motivate and build young girls’ confidence. Seven years on, the Team Girls’ platform celebrates the social and practical skills that netball teaches young girls for life, like resilience, community and leadership.
Lisa Harrison, CEO Consumer Insurance, said: “It is exciting to bring together successful women from such a variety of industries for the Suncorp Off-Court All Stars match.”
“Playing netball isn't just about winning trophies or being the best athlete, it develops a set of skills that endure far beyond your time on the court.
“At Suncorp, we know the importance of keeping girls in sport, and it’s why we developed Suncorp Team Girls. We know that sport builds confidence, and the more confident girls are now, the more successful they can be later in life. The Suncorp Off-Court All Stars match is an opportunity to showcase how the power of sport, particularly netball has shaped these women’s lives and given them the confidence to succeed.”
Netball Australia CEO Stacey West, who will line-up in the Suncorp Off-Court All Stars match on Sunday, said: “Suncorp plays a leading role in empowering women, girls and families to be healthy and confident.
“Netball Australia and Suncorp partnered in 2017 with a shared vision to elevate netball, empower girls and maintain their participation in team sport.
“The Suncorp Off-Court All Stars will bring together women from all walks of life who have a joint connection through netball. It will showcase the incredible power of the sport and highlight the importance of teamwork and leadership.”
Gates open at 12:15pm AEST for the 12.30pm AEST start time and Suncorp will have 1,000 mini netballs to give away at the gates.
Following the match, Suncorp will make a donation to Confident Girls Foundation, which they have been a partner since 2017.
