The 2023-24 Australian Diamonds squad has been announced in the lead up to this year’s Netball World Cup in Cape Town with three NSW Swifts selected.
Double Premiership champions of the Club Paige Hadley, Maddy Proud and Sarah Klau are included in the 19-strong squad, as is newcomer Matilda Garrett from the Adelaide Thunderbirds.
The 2023 Netball World Cup team of 15 athletes, including three reserves, will be selected from the Diamonds squad.
The squad was selected by Origin Australian Diamonds head coach Stacey Marinkovich and national selectors Anne Sargeant OAM and Michelle Wilkins.
A squad of up to 22 athletes can be selected, with Marinkovich saying there is opportunity for players to be elevated over the next 12 months.
“Selection is incredibly difficult, but this squad has performed strongly, including success at last year’s Commonwealth Games,” Marinkovich said.
“Over the past two years we have seen growth in performance, both within the program and when competing against other nations.
“Matilda Garrett comes into the squad after demonstrating growth in areas that support Australia’s defensive style of play. Matilda is a tight one-on-one defender who maintains intensity and we look forward to seeing her develop in the Diamonds squad.
“We will continue to closely review performance across the Suncorp Super Netball season, with the opportunity to bring athletes into the squad over the next 12 months.”
Following the 2023 Suncorp Super Netball season, the Diamonds will assemble for a training camp before traveling to Cape Town for the 2023 Netball World Cup.
