The 2025 Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) season got off to a thrilling start on North Bondi Beach, with a high-energy shootout featuring SSN players and the iconic Bondi Lifeguards. The game was more than just a shootout—it was a symbolic kickoff to what promises to be another incredible season of the world’s best netball.
Among the star-studded participants were NSW Swifts players Paige Hadley and Helen Housby along with Kate Moloney from the Melbourne Vixens and Matilda McDonnell from the GIANTS Netball. Joining them were Liz Ellis, Netball Australia Chair, and Stacey West, CEO of Netball Australia, both of whom had their own insights into the upcoming season.
Ellis, known for her extensive contribution to the sport, shared her excitement for the 2025 season: "I think we are going to have a great netball season," she said with a grin. "I’m impartial, but those who know me will know I have a personal connection to one team," when asked which team was her favourite.
“I’m really looking forward to the Swifts v Fever game and the appearance of Grace Nweke," Netball Australia CEO Stacey West said. “It’s going to be a fantastic matchup, and I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds!”
Meanwhile, Helen Housby, NSW Swifts' champion goal attacker, opened up about the fierce competition her team is preparing for in Round 1 of 2025. “I think our biggest competition is probably West Coast Fever,” Housby shared. “They look like a really strong team—always performing well in drills, and they work so well as a defensive unit. We’ll see how their attacking end shapes up, but with players like Fowler back in the mix, I think they’re pretty exciting. Any time they step up, it’s a massive battle, especially with their home advantage. They’re always a big challenge, and we’re ready for it!”
The 2025 Suncorp Super Netball season will officially kick off on April 5, with the Swifts playing their first game in Perth on Sunday 6 April against West Coast Fever. SSN continues to be the destination for the best players from Australia and around the globe. And for the first time, fans can catch every game live on Kayo Sports, Foxtel, and now, on Binge.
With the 2024 season already becoming the most attended season of Australian women’s sport, 2025 promises to break even more records. This year, netball fans are gearing up for another exciting season, full of unforgettable moments and intense matchups.
Off the court, exciting developments are happening too. Netball will be part of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, and Sydney will host the 2027 Netball World Cup, elevating the sport to a global stage like never before.
The launch event at Bondi Beach was a perfect mix of fun, competition, and celebration, and with the season just around the corner, the excitement has only just begun.
