The QBE Swifts Academy underpins the NSW Swifts netball program.
Launched with the backing of Netball NSW and the Swifts’ principal partner, QBE Insurance, the Academy looks to strengthen the foundations of Australian netball's most decorated elite club by providing further pathway opportunities to aspiring players from across NSW.
It provides a daily training environment for home-grown NSW athletes who have the potential to play for the club in the future.
Supporting the 10 rostered athletes in the senior Swifts squad which contests Suncorp Super Netball, Academy players consists of the best talent in the Netball NSW pathway.
The Academy is seeking Expressions of Interest from athletes who:
- Are strong performers in the Netball NSW Premier League competition, State Teams, Emerging teams or similar standard programs
- Display highly-developed technical skills
- Show superior ability to read the game and adapt to opponents and teammates play
- Excel in physical testing
- Display a growth mindset, mental toughness and are self -motivated
- Demonstrate the potential to progress on the NSW performance pathway
- Desire to be a Swift in the future
To be eligible for selection athletes must:
- Be a current financial member of Netball NSW
- Be turning 17years or older in 2024
- Reside in NSW
- Netball NSW may grant an exemption to an ineligible player if that player has the potential to be considered a future SSN player
Nomination information:
- All athletes wishing to be considered for selection into the QBE Swifts Academy must submit an expression of interest to Netball NSW.
- This includes athletes who are currently on scholarship in the QBE Swifts Academy.
- Expression of Interest nominations will open on September 25, 2023 and will close on October 13, 2023.
- Expressions of Interest applications submitted after the EOI period should be submitted to the General Manager Performance & Pathways (details below) for consideration.
Selection Information
- There will be no selection trials for the 2024 QBE Swifts Academy program.
- The QBE Swifts Academy will independently determine the assessment criteria for selection into the Academy.
- The QBE Swifts Academy selection panel will review athlete performance in match play and video footage and may also consider past performance.
- From September 25, 2023 to October 5, 2023, the QBE Swifts Academy selection panel can offer to renew the scholarship of any athlete currently in their Academy for 1 year. During this period the QBE Swifts Academy selection panel can only discuss contracts with athletes currently within their Academy.
- From October 2, 2023 to October 27, 2023 the QBE Swifts Academy selection panel can offer scholarships to any athlete who has been released from an alternate Academy or who has submitted an Expression of Interest for their Academy
- The QBE Swifts Academy selection panel is not obliged to provide feedback to athletes.
