Netball NSW and the NSW Swifts are delighted to announce that The Kids’ Cancer Project’s Crazy Hair & Sock Day initiative will return in 2021 and are encouraging all Clubs and Associations to get involved for a great cause.
Since Crazy Hair & Sock Day began over 10 years ago, the NSW netball community has rallied together by donning bright, colourful hair and socks to raise as much money as possible for childhood cancer research.
While COVID-19 impacted many clubs’ ability to host fundraising days in 2020, everyone is hopeful that 2021 competitions will be able to run in relative normalcy. And what better way is there to have fun with our youngest netballers than by dressing up and hitting the netball court?
The Kids’ Cancer Project and their amazing patients, staff, volunteers and supporters hold a special place in the NSW netball community. Who could forget NSW Swifts defender Lauren Moore saving her head last year and raising over $15k for the charity in the process?
You don’t have to go that far, but a funny wig wouldn’t look out of place.
“We are delighted to see Crazy Hair & Sock Day return,” Darren Simpson, Executive General Manager of Community and Pathways at Netball NSW, said.
“2020 was a year that effected everyone but that didn’t stop The Kids’ Cancer Project from doing amazing work that supports children and their families who spend far too much time in hospital.
“Every Club and Association will have families who’ve been affected by childhood cancer so hosting a Crazy Hair & Sock Day also helps the wider community.
“We have been doing this for over a decade now which is a testament to the commitment of our netball community to the cause, and the brilliant people at the charity.”
The official 2021 Crazy Hair & Sock Day is Saturday 24 July but Clubs and Associations can hold their event at any time throughout the year.
