QBE Swifts Academy athlete Eliza Burton has capped off an extraordinary season in the pathway, taking home the Super Netball Reserves Player of the Year Award at Netball Australia’s Annual Awards Dinner this evening.
The prestigious accolade headlines an impressive collection of honours for Burton, who also claimed the QBE Swifts Academy Players' Player Award and Grand Final MVP following a standout season in the competition.
Burton said the award was a special way to cap off what had been a memorable year with the group.
"I feel very privileged to be nominated for the award and even more honoured to be the winner amongst some incredible athletes," Burton said.
"I'd like to thank Lenore, Sharyn, Dylan and Briony, as well as the rest of the NSW Swifts staff, for taking a chance on me this season.
"This award is an unexpected bonus to what's been an incredibly successful and fun season with an amazing bunch of friends."
Swifts Head Coach Dylan Nexhip said Burton's award was well-deserved recognition of the commitment and work she had put into her game throughout the season.
"Eliza had an outstanding Super Netball Reserves campaign and this award is well-deserved recognition of her hard work, willingness to evolve and ability to execute her on-court role to an exceptionally high standard," Nexhip said.
"She's a fantastic role model for aspiring athletes and a shining example of what the Netball NSW pathway can offer.
"She has remained humble, honed her craft and embraced every opportunity that came her way with a positive outlook, and this award is a reflection of that."
The NSW Swifts congratulate Eliza on a remarkable season and well-earned national recognition.
