On Sunday the Swifts will celebrate the Club's second Pride Game as part of Suncorp Super Netball's Inclusion Round.
Below are some of the reasons why celebration of Pride is so important to us as a Club.
- Sunday is not just about celebrating and appreciating the members of the LGBTIQA+ community who support us in the stands, but also the people from that same community who are part of our direct team here at the Swifts and about whom we care deeply. That is why we have chosen to celebrate Pride again in 2024.
- Netball grew because women were excluded from other sports, so the idea that the game we love would not be a safe space for all is highly disingenuous to its pioneering traditions and who the Swifts are as a Club.
- Working with Proud2Play again has been invaluable as they provide real-world overviews of the challenges still faced by the LGBTIQA+ community.
- People don’t know what they don’t know and engaging Proud2Play in education sessions is vitally important because the onus should not be on our LGBTIQA+ staff to teach us. Instead, it is our job to ensure they are comfortable being who they are.
- The Swifts have always been, and will continue to be, committed to ensuring there is a common understanding and appreciation among all of the cultures and communities that make up our Club on and off the court.
- With the support of Principal Partner QBE Insurance we are once again creating a Pride Seating Bowl in Ken Rosewall Arena.
- It may just be a game, but Sunday is also an opportunity to once again show that netball is a welcome place for all. We’ll wear our bibs and dress Ken Rosewall Arena with Pride. We hope to see you there.
