MEDIA RELEASE: Tuesday 19 August 2025
QBE Swifts Academy graduate and Australian 21U star Grace Whyte has put pen to paper for the NSW Swifts’ 2026 Suncorp Super Netball campaign.
This is the first full-time SSN contract for the 20-year-old, who was named the Swifts 11th player in 2025 and went on to put in a string of fine performances over the course of the season.
An attacking midcourter, who can also play in the goal circle, Whyte has just been named in the Australian 21U Team which will contest the Netball Youth World Cup in Gibraltar later this year.
The Tumut native made her Swifts debut in 2024 and has played 21 senior games for Club so far.
Head coach Briony Akle said Whyte had done everything that was asked of her in 2025 and had earned her spot through talent and determination.
“For a player who is still so young, Grace is pretty fearless and that’s a big reason why we are delighted to make her a full-time Swift,” Akle said.
“In some huge games this year she ran our attack like a seasoned veteran and that is a sign of the maturity she already has.
“Not only does she possess raw talent, she brings to the table a huge work ethic and willingness to learn.
“She is by no means the finished article and has a huge ceiling. Grace backs herself in big moments and you need players with that sort of courage to step up.
“I would like to make a special mention of the Netball NSW Pathways team, and the QBE Swifts Academy, who have both played a big role in bringing another NSW talent through to SSN.”
Whyte spoke of the moment she got the news of her elevation:
“It was a very proud moment for me and my family, and I would really like to thank them – especially my Mum – for everything they have done to support my netball journey to this point.
“It was pretty surreal when I got told I was going to become a fulltime Swift and becoming the 11th player really gave me an opportunity to show what I can do.
“I love being trusted by the coaches to go out and do a job for them. I know I still have loads more to learn but I am excited to get the chance to do that.
“Getting to learn from the likes of Paige Hadley, Maddy Proud, Helen Housby, Grace Nweke and Verity Simmons in an attacking side is an amazing education and I can’t wait to take the next step in my career.
“First up I have the Netball Youth World Cup in Gibraltar, and then it’s all systems go for the Swifts in 2026.”
